What you get for one code

One lookup returns the product as Amazon lists it on the marketplace you picked: title and image, the ASIN, the EAN, UPC and ISBN codes attached to the listing, the current Buy Box price and whether it is fulfilled by Amazon, how many FBA and FBM sellers are on the listing, an estimate of monthly units sold, the Best Sellers Rank and the product’s rating. Add what the unit costs you and the same fee engine that powers our bulk scanner adds the referral fee, the FBA fulfilment fee by size tier and your net profit, margin and ROI.

How to find an ASIN from a barcode

  1. 1

    Paste a code

Type or paste an ASIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN. The type is detected automatically; you can override it.

  2. 2

    Pick the marketplace

Choose Amazon.com, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .it or .es — the same code can resolve to a different ASIN on each.

  3. 3

    Read the product

Title, image, ASIN, the codes Amazon lists for it, Buy Box price, FBA/FBM seller counts, monthly sales and BSR. Add your cost to see fees and profit.

ASIN, EAN, UPC, ISBN — what each one is

ASIN. Amazon’s own 10-character identifier for a product page (for example B0C4G2DPCB). It is not a barcode and it is not global: the same product can have a different ASIN on Amazon.com and on Amazon.de.

UPC (GTIN-12). In GS1’s words, “a GTIN-12 is 12 digits in length. It is predominantly used in North America … synonymous with UPC and is the only GTIN type that can be encoded in the UPC-A barcode.” Supplier price lists from US distributors almost always carry UPCs.

EAN (GTIN-13). “A GTIN-13 is 13 digits in length. It is predominately used outside North America … synonymous with EAN.” European and UK price lists carry EANs; an 8-digit EAN-8 exists for small items.

ISBN. Books use ISBNs. An ISBN-13 is a GTIN-13 with a 978 or 979 prefix, so it behaves like an EAN; an ISBN-10 is the older form of the same number and is converted before the lookup.

The leading zero. GS1’s technical guidance states that shorter formats “MUST be filled in with leading zeroes up to 14 digits” and that “all these formats still convey the same GTIN identifier.” That is why a 12-digit UPC, the same digits with a leading zero as a 13-digit EAN, and the 14-digit form are one product — and why an 11-digit code that lost its first zero in a spreadsheet is padded back rather than rejected.

GS1 and Amazon. Amazon states, as quoted by GS1 US: “We verify the authenticity of product UPCs by checking the GS1 database. UPCs that do not match the information provided by GS1 will be considered invalid.” A code that was never licensed through GS1 may therefore not resolve to a listing, even if a supplier printed it on a box.

From one code to a whole price list

This page answers one code at a time. A supplier price list has hundreds or thousands of them. The bulk scanner takes the list as a CSV or Excel file, matches every EAN, UPC or ASIN to its Amazon listing on the marketplace you sell in, and returns the same product data with fees and profit per row — so you can decide what to buy before you buy it.

FAQ

What is an ASIN?

An ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) is the 10-character code Amazon assigns to every product page, for example B0C4G2DPCB. It is specific to Amazon: the same physical product can carry different ASINs on different Amazon marketplaces, while its barcode stays the same everywhere.

What is the difference between an ASIN, an EAN and a UPC?

EAN and UPC are barcodes issued through GS1: a UPC (GTIN-12) is 12 digits and is used mostly in North America, an EAN (GTIN-13) is 13 digits and is used in Europe and most of the world. An ASIN is not a barcode — it is Amazon’s own listing identifier. This tool takes any of them and returns the Amazon product with its ASIN and the codes Amazon lists for it.

Can I look up a book by ISBN?

Yes. An ISBN-13 is a GTIN-13 with a 978 or 979 prefix, so it is looked up like any EAN. An ISBN-10 is converted to its ISBN-13 automatically before the lookup.

My UPC has 11 digits — is it wrong?

Usually not. Spreadsheets drop the leading zero of a UPC-A when the column is formatted as a number, turning 012345678905 into 12345678905. The lookup pads an 11-digit code back to 12. GS1 defines shorter codes filled with leading zeros as the same identifier, so a 12-digit UPC and the 13-digit EAN with a leading zero are the same product.

Why does the lookup say "no product found"?

Either the product is not listed on the marketplace you selected (try another one — a code can exist on Amazon.com and not on Amazon.de), the code has a typo (the check digit is verified before the lookup), or the code is not attached to any Amazon listing. Amazon verifies UPCs against the GS1 database, so codes that were never licensed through GS1 often do not resolve.

Which marketplaces are supported?

Amazon.com (US), Amazon.co.uk (UK), Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it and Amazon.es. Prices and fees are shown in the marketplace’s own currency.

How many free lookups do I get, and what does an account add?

A limited number of lookups per hour per visitor is free, no account needed. Signing up starts a 7-day Premium trial and then keeps a free plan with 3 scans a month, where a scan checks a whole supplier list — up to 3,000 codes at once — instead of one code at a time.

Are the prices and seller counts live?

They come from public Amazon catalogue data refreshed regularly; a code looked up recently is served from that refresh (the result says so). Fees and profit use the same fee engine as the bulk scanner: Amazon’s published referral and FBA fee schedules for each marketplace.
